“The Waterhouse for a Waterhouse”

New for 1930, the Pierce- Arrow Model B Chassis was available in a wheelbase of either 134 or 139 inches, the latter seen here. The Model B was Pierce-Arrow’s mid-level option for the year, accompanying A and C Models as well. The Model B produces 125 horsepower with a displacement of 366 cubic-inches. Further amplifying the sophistication of the 1930 Model B, this Pierce-Arrow is sporting Waterhouse coachwork of Webster, Massachusetts. Known for their beautiful creations, but not high production numbers, Waterhouse would only produce 3 Pierce-Arrow bodies before shuttering their firm in 1933. This is the only 1930 Convertible Victoria body they are credited for building for Pierce-Arrow.

The history of this Pierce-Arrow can be traced back as early as the 1940s, purchased by a gentleman in New Hampshire and later passed onto his three daughters who used the car as a daily driver for decades. It would remain with them until 2004 when it was discovered and purchased by Lawrence Waterhouse, the grandson of company founder, Charles L. Waterhouse, Sr. Found in a state of disrepair after decades of use and a failed restoration attempt, Waterhouse went on to commission a painstaking restoration for the Model B to reflect its exact configuration from new, including its original colors of Orville Blue and Briarcliff Beige, and its original artillery-style wheels.
