“A Triumph in Smart Motor Cars”

After World War II ended, Chrysler reintroduced the Town & Country name in 1946. However, the four-door eight-passenger station wagon model was discontinued. The only 1946 Town & Country variants offered were the sedan and two-door convertible. After the war, Chrysler wanted to greatly expand its Town & Country line and planned to offer it in five body styles. Chrysler published a brochure showing two and four-door sedans, a three-passenger roadster, as well as hardtop and convertible versions. Ultimately, only the four-door sedan and the soft-top convertible actually went into production.

The wooden body framing of this vehicle was constructed from white ash and the exterior panels were mahogany veneer bonded to steel panels. Town & Country models for 1947 were largely carried over from their 1946 versions, and this became the final year to use genuine wood veneers within the door panels.

This 1947 Town & Country Convertible displays exquisitely restored woodwork, Highlander plaid upholstery inserts, and the inventive Fluid Drive transmission - allowing the driver to stop while driving without needing to use the clutch pedal.
