“Fury…all the zip you can tame!”

In commemorating its 30th anniversary in 1959, Plymouth maintained its position as the third best-selling American car brand, largely attributed to the innovative “Forward Look” design concept led by Virgil Exner. Since the early 1950s, Exner collaborated closely with Ghia to infuse elements of classic era and jet plane aesthetics into Plymouth’s range of vehicles, including more budget-friendly models. The Fury was strategically positioned as the flagship model within Plymouth’s lineup, maintaining a 118-inch wheelbase. The Plymouth Fury line consisted of a two-door hardtop, four-door hardtop, and a four-door sedan. Described by the company as being “long and low and luxurious-looking,” these fashionable automobiles brought considerable style and convenience features to a readily accessible price point.

The 1959 Fury retained much of the prior year’s style, with enhancements such as a new “egg crate” front grille and optional features like air suspension, swiveling front seats, and the distinctive “Flite Sweep” rear deck lid. Finished in Palomino beige, with a contrasting Bittersweet-colored roof, this fully-restored 2-door hardtop example features the optional push-button automatic transmission, as well as the pioneering “Mirrormatic” automatically-dimming electrochromic rear view mirror.
