“The Performance starts as soon as you’re seated”

New for 1964, the Chevrolet Chevelle was an instant hit amongst the public and went on to be one of Chevrolet’s most successful and recognizable nameplates. The Chevelle was offered in a multitude of body configurations through its lifespan including coupes, convertibles, station wagons, and sedans. The Chevelle was the only all-new car in the United States for the 1964 model year and sales resulted in over 330,000 units being produced. Arguably the most notable generation of the Chevelle is the 2nd, from 1968-1972. The Chevelle would go on to become known as “America's most popular mid-size car” and fill a large gap in the Chevrolet lineup.

“You can make our tough one even tougher”

1970 would also see the introduction of the 454 cubic-inch engine option for the entire Chevelle line, previously only available within the RPO Z15 SS Equipment Option. The base 454 engine was rated at 360 HP but for those who needed even more, the LS6 package could be chosen, resulting in a Horsepower rating advertised at 450 but rumored to be closer to 500 HP. The 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 model was the only production General Motors vehicle to have a higher horsepower rating than the Corvette.
